Cheers to Beers: 5 Beloved Brews

In honor of International Beer Day on August 4—a holiday to enjoy (responsibly!) one of the world’s most ancient alcoholic beverages—we rounded up the 5 most beloved brews, according to Beer Advocate. Whether you’re into oatmeal stouts or imperial IPAs, this round’s on us!

Breakfast Stout: Double Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout

Founders Brewing Company, foundersbrewing.com

ABV: 8.3%

TASTING NOTES: The coffee lover’s consummate beer is brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates, and two types of coffee resulting in a stout with a fresh-roasted java nose and a frothy, cinnamon-colored head.

90 Minute IPA: Imperial IPA

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, dogfish.com

ABV: 9%

TASTING NOTES: With rich pine and fruity citrus hop aromas and a strong malt backbone, 90 Minute IPA boasts a pungent, unapologetic flavor that Esquire deemed: “perhaps the best IPA in America.”

Two Hearted IPA: American IPA

Bell’s Brewery, bellsbeer.com

ABV: 7%

TASTING NOTES: Named after fishing waters in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Two Hearted is an American IPA brewed and dry hopped with 100% Centennial hops. Beloved by longtime and new craft beer drinkers, it’s an iconic ale with notes of citrus, grapefruit, and pine that’s perfect for any occasion.

Pliny The Elder: Double IPA

Russian River Brewing Company, russianriverbrewing.com

ABV: 8%

TASTING NOTES: Brewed with Amarillo, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe hops, this brew is well-balanced with malt, hops, and alcohol; and slightly bitter with a fresh hop aroma of floral, citrus, and pine.

Heady Topper: Imperial IPA

The Alchemist, alchemistbeer.com

ABV: 8%

TASTING NOTES: Meant to saturate your senses with the flavors and aromas of dank cannabis, Heady Topper is an unfiltered, unpasteurized double IPA with a deeply layered profile full of orange, tropical fruit, pink grapefruit, pine, and spice.
