The Acoustic Den Café  //  If you’re looking for dinner (hey, café fare can be dinner too!) and a show, head to The Acoustic Den Café in Roseville for an intimate yet entertaining experience. With open mic nights, jam sessions and more, this joint is the perfect escape from the humdrum of everyday life. I managed to snag front row seats to watch Cat’s Meow perform on my visit. Their repertoire ranged from blues and country to swing and Latin rhythms, and the bobbing heads and tapping feet in the audience were a testament to how good they really were. To accompany the infectious tunes, I ordered a baked Chimichanga, which came with a salad plus chips, salsa and sour cream, and a Hot Chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream. The chicken filling in the chimichanga had a sweet, smoky flavor that intensified with every bite, and the fact that it was baked and not deep-fried allowed me to indulge guilt-free in my decadent hot chocolate. As I warmed my hands around the hot mug, others stayed warm by dancing to the tunes of Elvis and Chuck Berry and downing a beer or three—good times and good spirits were in abundance. This place is a real gem; with so much talent on display and carefully prepared, delicious food, you’d be missing out if you didn’t drop by. The Acoustic Den Café, 10271 Fairway Drive, Suite 120, Roseville, 916-412-8739.
