Popie Wines Awarded Placer County’s First International Award

Feb 04, 2016 10:24AM ● By David Norby

Popie Wines is pleased to present “A French Connection,” a celebration of our international award winning Gamay along with our Charbono, Syrah and Cabernet, three other French wines in the Popie line-up. The winery’s 2012 Gamay is Placer County’s first internationally award winning wine. The international competition – which is held each winter in Lyon, France – includes entries from all over Europe and beyond. The 2015 contest comprised over 500 entries with 160 medals awarded of which 33 medals were given to wineries outside of France. Of those, only one went to a U.S. winery and that was Popie Wines. This is quite an accomplishment and honor considering the history between the French and Americans.

Popie Wines is a small production boutique winery located in the Loomis Basin, an area rich in farming history. Wines are hand crafted in small lots using primarily locally grown fruit. Popie Wines’ is steeped in tradition, bound by quality and driven by excellence. Over the years, Popie Wines has won numerous awards at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the California State Fair Wine Competition including two Best of Class winners.
