A little about Teagan… 

On March 18th 2015, Teagan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She went from being a carefree, independent seven year old to finger pokes, five insulin shots a day and counting every carb. 

Teagan has been a part of the City of Folsom's Vacation Zone Summer Camp since she was five. When her and her mom received news that Teagan would not be able to attend this summer due to her risky health circumstances, she was beside herself. She was determined to do whatever it took to make it to camp this summer. 

Teagan had the doctors teach her to give herself the insulin shots just so she could come to summer camp this year. This girl is full of spunk and sass and has not let this condition define her. She is thriving at camp this summer and summer camp employees have watched her grow into a bright, responsible, fun-loving girl who isn’t going to let her life be affected by diabetes. 

Teagan wears a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) which regularly alerts her and her mom, Cori, if there is a noticeable change in her blood sugar. But as with all technology, sensors can and do fail. Because of this, they are trying to raise funds to get Teagan a Diabetic Alert Dog. 

Cori, Teagan’s mom, writes, “I see an alert dog as having my back to provide a bit of a safety net to help watch over Teagan since I can’t be everywhere all the time with her but the dog can. Additionally, it will give her back some of the independence she lost at diagnosis (snacks, playdates, birthday parties and sleepovers all have new meaning requiring a bit of helicopter parenting which is not especially enjoyable for either of us) and give her a friend who is in this with her every step of the way for the next ten or so years. “
