In the heart of downtown Placerville, there’s a local sandwich spot that lets you take a bite out of the foothills. Previously known as Old Towne Deli, Main Street Melters is still offering up a mouthwatering variety of original sandwiches, both melted and cold, although—as the name suggests—it would behoove you to go the melted route! From the inside, there’s not much to look at—the real ambience lies on the deck out front where you can kick back, eat up and relax. That’s exactly what I did after I ordered The Avocado Sandwich. Toasted with crisp bacon, heaps of buttery avocado, gooey pepper-jack cheese and mayo, I dug in and sipped my Sparkling Peach Iced Tea while watching the cars go by under the shade of a giant tree emerging from the center of the deck. After savoring the perfectly warmed, fresh-made ooey-gooey sandwich, I knew that I would be back. If you’re in the mood for a satisfying quick bite or a 60-minute getaway on your lunch break, Main Street Melters is most definitely the place to spend a little time. Main Street Melters, 589 Main Street, Placerville, 530-303-3871.
