With an excellent performance at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach Monday, Folsom's Kevin Lucas qualified to compete in the U.S. Open next week at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., which is near Tacoma. The event takes place June 18-21 this year.

He was vying for one of just 58 spots in the 36-hole qualifying course. Eleven other sites nationwide also participated. He shot rounds of 68 and 66 to qualify. This is Lucas' third year in the professional ranks.

The 26-year-old has a lot of support, including brother Justin, 29, who is the top-ranked professional bass fisherman in the country.

"Holy freaking smokes!" Justin said on Facebook, Monday. "My brother just qualified for the U.S. Open next week in Washington! I feel like I just won another Elite Series event I am so excited for him! He has worked so hard and has been so close before. He is so deserving! Congrats Kevin!! #usopen #pgatour"

The two are also brothers to Joe Lucas, 27, who retired from the mixed martial arts circuit recently.
