Work continues this June on the federal Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam project at Folsom Lake, a major project that is designed to reduce the risk of dam failure due to internal erosion and earthquake-related events.

For public safety reasons, the Bureau of Reclamation will close the trail on top of Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam during the last stages of the ongoing construction project. The crest of the dam and the trail will close Monday, June 15 and should reopen in February 2016.

Closing the crest will impact those who enjoy using the trail between Folsom Point and Brown’s Ravine. The City of Folsom, California Department of Parks & Recreation and Bureau of Reclamation have identified a trail detour between the east and west ends of the dam.

Detour maps will be posted near the trail and available on the City of Folsom website.
