Life Enriching Communication (LEC) is offering a workshop, "The Power of Self-Compassion: Keys to Overcome Guilt and Shame" to El Dorado County. The workshop will be held at Federated Church on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The workshop will help participants work through guilt and shame by compassionately embracing it and transforming it. There will be a number of activities that will assist individuals in getting to the root of guilt and shame.

"Whenever we experience guilt it is usually because there is a value of ours that is not being lived out in our lives," says Eddie Zacapa, who will be facilitating the workshop. "When we can compassionately embrace this value we transform guilt into something that motivates us to live out what is most important to us. It is radical when this occurs."

The workshop will also go over the negative tapes we play in our head that lead to shame and will give participants practical strategies to deal with them.

“The number one cause of depression is our thinking,” says Zacapa. “There is usually a pattern of self-judgment that is engrained. When we learn to connect with our heart’s longing instead of what we think about ourselves we create a different world.”

The workshop will incorporate the teaching of Compassionate Communication, also known as Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Marshall Rosenberg founded NVC approximately 40 years ago. It has been used around the world to mediate conflicts, nurture relationships, and promote peace.

LEC is dedicated to supporting individuals, families, and organizations in learning nonviolent communication and supporting individuals and communities in living compassionate lives.

The workshop will be held at 438 Main Street, Suite E, in Placerville. To register for the class or to ask questions, contact Eddie at 916-409-0879 or email [email protected]. The cost is based on a sliding scale and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
