May 16, 2015 04:03PM ● By Brenna Mc Gowan

More than $60,000 in grants and scholarships will be awarded by Women’s Fund El Dorado (WFED) at its annual Grants Gala, set for June 4 at Lakehills Covenant Church, El Dorado Hills, and all community members are welcome.

The $25 ticket price ($30 after May 28) includes a buffet dinner; for tickets or information visit womensfundeldorado.org/events/. The recipient 501(c)(3) organizations, which will be formally announced that evening, were selected by the WFED membership through voting

A total of $45,000 in Focus Grants will go to organizations aimed at “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty.” An estimated one El Dorado County resident in 10 lives at or below the poverty level, a rate that is even higher among children than adults.

Additionally, Impact Grants of $5,000 each will be awarded in three member-selected areas of need: supporting women and children, providing solutions to mental health challenges, and promoting senior services. The recipients of WFED’s Wickline Scholarships for women overcoming challenges to pursue further education will be announced as well.

Attendees at the June 4 dinner will also be inspired by accounts from last year’s grant recipients, which include New Morning Youth and Family Services and a collaborative partnership of Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County and The Center for Violence-Free Relationships.

Since it was founded in 2007, WFED’s membership has grown to more than 380. After this year’s funds have been awarded, the organization will have granted more than $350,000 and will have an endowment totaling more than $330,000.

A collective giving organization that pools its members’ donations, the Women’s Fund is open to all. Most members donate $200 each year and some donate more; donations are leveraged in the form of substantial grants that support community philanthropy to enhance the quality of life on the Western Slope of El Dorado County.

WFED has entrusted the El Dorado Community Foundation with overseeing its endowment fund and investing monies appropriately to diversify income and ensure its longevity. For details and to join or renew, please visit womensfundeldorado.org or call 530-622-5621.
