Several recent home burglaries throughout Folsom are not necessarily the work of one criminal or group of criminals, according to police.

Several homes have been targeted in recent weeks during daytime hours and thieves have entered through rear windows and doors that have mostly been unlocked. The most recent thefts have taken place in the following areas:

  • April 27 in the 100 block of 100 Block Silberhorn Drive a ring was stolen sometime before 10:45 a.m.
  • April 26 in the 800 Block Blossom Rock Lane jewelry was stolen sometime before 10:45 a.m.
  • April 23 in the 1100 Block Sandwick Way items were stolen sometime before 4:35 p.m.
  • April 21 in the 2100 Block Shady Creek Road several items were stolen sometime before 6 p.m.
"We don't have any evidence to link the burglaries," said Folsom Police Sgt. Andrew Bates. "Those entry points aren't unusual, so the entry locations alone aren't enough for us to say they're related."

Naturally, the first line of defense against someone breaking into your home while you're away is to lock all windows and doors. However, Bates also recommended a few other ideas to keep you safe.

  • Form or join a Neighborhood Watch.  There is a lot of value in having neighbors keep and eye on your place and know when something happens that's out of the ordinary, so they can call you or law enforcement.
  • Stop mail or newspapers if you are away from your home for several days.  Folsom residents can request vacation checks while they are away.  Police volunteers will periodically check to be sure the house is secure.
  • Consider cameras or alarms as deterants to thieves.  A home that is more difficult to get into is less likely to be burglarized.
To start a Neighborhood Watch group in Folsom, contact Rosie Kracher (916) 351-3409, or the Volunteer desk at the Folsom Police Department at (916) 351-3536.
