A Penryn man is in custody after he was arrested in Roseville Friday night attempting to sell hallucinogenic mushrooms to an under-age police decoy working with the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

According to the sheriff's office, Noah James Phippen 19, was approached in the 1100 block of Douglas Boulevard by the decoy to purchase beer. Phippen said he wasn't old enough to buy beer either, but did offer some “California gold cap mushrooms.” The decoy purchased the mushrooms with his beer money, the sheriff's office said.

Phippen was approached by deputies a short distance away. After denying that he sold the drugs, the sheriff's office conducted a search of Phippen's vehicle. In his possession was $1,500 cash and psilocybin mushrooms, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and scales, the sheriff's office said.

Phippen was booked at the Placer County Jail on charges of possession and sales of psilocybin; possession of cocaine for sale and transportation of cocaine; and possession of methamphetamine. Phippen remains in custody with bail set at $200,000.
