Roseville Community Comes Together to Save Sweet Dog Lola

One year can make such a difference.
A Good Samaritan noticed a neighbor’s dog was extremely underweight, with the outlines of her ribs exposed in March of 2014. Horrified by the state of the dog, he contacted Roseville Police Department and reported her deplorable condition to Animal Control.
Roseville Animal Control officers checked on Lola, and found that she looked like "a walking skeleton." She had open wounds on her neck, and appeared very ill. Knowing the dog’s life was in severe danger ACO's seized the dog and brought her to Atlantic Street Veterinary Hospital Pet Emergency Center.
“When Lola was presented to Pet Emergency Center, many of us were in shock due to her appearance,” states Nicole Orlando, RVT Practice Manager. Lola arrived weighing just 30 pounds. “She was severely emaciated and her neck was swollen due to open wounds. Despite all of her suffering, she was full of love and wagging her tail!”
After a week at Pet Emergency Center, Lola was transferred to the Placer SPCA where she was placed on a strict feeding plan in order to help her slowly gain the weight back. After several months under the Placer SPCA’s veterinary care, Lola weighed 68.6 pounds–more than double what she weighed when she was found. Lola remained with the Placer SPCA until she was cleared for adoption in February 2015.
In March 2015, Lola had regained her health and was the most loving dog when she fell in love with her new forever family and happily went on to live her new life.
Lola's second chance was a team effort between the community, Roseville Animal Control, Atlantic Street Veterinary Hospital Pet Emergency Center and the Placer SPCA. Along with Animal Control, the Placer SPCA worked with the Placer County District Attorney’s Office to hold her owner legally responsible and protect future animals of the community.
