A moose head stolen from a North Lake Tahoe resort in January has been found, according to police.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office announced this week the icon taken from the lobby of the Sunnyside Resort was turned in March 23 by a resident who found it along the side of the road near the resort shortly after it was reported stolen.

"The citizen took the moose head home not knowing the circumstances surrounding it," the sheriff's office said. "Upon seeing the news story, the citizen contacted the Placer County Sheriff's Office, and the property was returned to Sunnyside Resort."

The owners of the resort reported the moose head missing on the morning of Jan. 22. It had been stolen sometime after midnight that day.

Police said no arrests have been made in the case.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Dave Hunt at 530-581-6321.
