Folsom Police Chief Cynthia Renaud was honored this week at the State Capitol. 

California Assemblywoman Beth Gaines, of Roseville, nominated Renaud for a Women's Caucus Woman of the Year Award. The honor is given annually to one woman from each of the state's 80 districts.
 
Renaud was sworn in as Folsom's first female police chief in 2011. She is one of only about 20 female chiefs in the entire state.

Renaud has a nearly 25-year career in law enforcement and holds a master’s degree in Homeland Security and Defense from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.  She attended the FBI's National Academy in Quantico, Va. in 2003, according to her biography on the city of Folsom website. 

The Woman of the Year event was started in 1987 by two Assemblywomen who noticed the California Legislature had no events planned for the month of March, Women's History Month.

“Women’s History Month is not only a call to acknowledge the outstanding women whose names we know, but also a call to pay homage to the many women who have anonymously influenced our collective past. This celebration is an excellent way to honor the women who shape our state’s history,” said Legislative Women’s Caucus Chair, Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara).
