A Cameron Park man is in custody in the El Dorado County Jail after allegedly shooting his father-in-law.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Hinds, 33, of the 2600 block of Country Drive, was fighting with his wife at about 2:35 a.m. March 6 when the woman called her father to the home for help. When the father arrived, Hinds allegedly shot him in the stomach, the sheriff's office said.

When deputies arrived a short time later, Hinds had fled the home, but was found two hours later at another home in El Dorado County, the sheriff's office said. He was taken into custody without incident and the gun allegedly used in the shooting was recovered, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. The father-in-law was transported to the hospital for his injuries, but is expected to recover.

HInds has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. He is being held on $75,000 bail.
