The city of Folsom is Sacramento’s best suburb, according to a list of the top 10 published by real estate blog Movoto.

Movoto cited Folsom’s low crime rate, commute and recreational opportunities in its rankings. The following eight criteria was used to determine the list:

  • Amenties per capita
  • Quality of life (average home price, rent, household income and student to teach ratio)
  • Total crime
  • Violent crime
  • Weather
  • Graduation rates
  • Cost of gas
  • Average commute

“Like all of the others in our top 10, it’s an ideal place to live with a quick commute to Sacramento for work (25 minutes on average), but unique to Folsom are things like the Folsom Lake State Recreation area, a vast park for hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, and even horseback riding, and the postcard-worthy historical district, dotted with museums, restaurants and shops,” the study said.

Here’s the complete top 10

  1. Folsom
  2. Davis
  3. Roseville
  4. Fair Oaks
  5. Granite Bay
  6. Elk Grove
  7. Rocklin
  8. West Sacramento
  9. La Riviera
  10. Carmichael
