Placer County Sheriff's detectives are searching for a suspect in a fatal stabbing that occurred late Friday night in west Roseville.

According to the sheriff's office, at about 11:30 p.m., a 21-year-old Sacramento man was walking with friends to a party on Lanie Court. A verbal argument occurred between the man and a group traveling in the area in an older-model white sedan, the sheriff's office said.

During the argument, the driver exited the vehicle, approached the victim and stabbed him three to four times. The car then drove away, the sheriff's office said. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver is described as between 18 to 22 years old. Detectives said they don't believe the two men knew each other, nor do they believe the stabbing was gang-related. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members, the sheriff's office said.

Detectives are searching for passengers of the vehicle who may not have even been aware that a stabbing occurred. They are urged to call the Sheriff's Office at 530-886-5375.
