A man apparently committed suicide Tuesday by driving his car into Folsom Lake, said the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

According to the sheriff's office, employees arriving for work on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Brown's Ravine Marina saw a man sitting alone in his car, which was parked facing the water at a nearby boat ramp.

Shortly after seeing the parked vehicle, employees then saw the man drive his car down the ramp and into the water.

"Within seconds the vehicle floated out into deep water and sank," the sheriff's office said. "A marina employee attempted a rescue as emergency crews arrived on scene. Due to the dangerous underwater conditions and the length of time the vehicle had been submerged, the rescue attempt was called off."

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Dive Team responded to the scene and later recovered the vehicle. An adult male body was discovered inside of the vehicle. The incident is being investigated as an apparent suicide, the sheriff's office said.
