ASR Restaurant & Lounge may be a new kid on the block, but it sure seems the eatery knows exactly what it wants to be when it grows up.

The swanky-yet-relaxed vibe is augmented by sleek, gray-blue décor and blue and white glass pendant lights, which cast a soft glow on the lounge area that’s perfect for mingling. We were seated at one of the booths rimming the perimeter of the lounge, which is a great spot to land when you want a slightly more intimate experience.

Another thing ASR has locked down? Service. We were immediately greeted by a friendly waiter who was quick to offer suggestions and had the timing of our drinks and appetizers sorted out perfectly. He made the meal feel like a well-choreographed dance.

We started with the duck egg roll—a dusky combination of duck confit, sweet onion, creamy Brie and earthy shitake mushrooms…all tucked in a crisp wrapper and set atop a vibrant port and berry sauce.

My husband proceeded with the beef Wellington, a plate that boasted both delicate and flaky pastry and tender filet mignon on a bed of truffle Madeira sauce. My pan-seared diver scallops were silky smooth and delectably seasoned. The side of toothsome saffron couscous with basil oil was such an addicting blend of flavors—my only complaint was I wanted more.

From the dessert menu, the Grand Marnier soufflé was the obvious choice. Though it took a bit to make it to the table (it’s notoriously finicky and when they had a mishap, the staff opted to start over from scratch and comp it, rather than give us something less than perfect), it was a fluffy delight and well worth the wait.

ASR undoubtedly deserves the admiration and designation of the midtown-like lounge and fine-dining establishment that Roseville’s been waiting for.
