These are a few of my favorite things: macadamia nut-crusted Brie, warm and spreadable; risotto fritters, crispy on the outside, creamy and salty on the inside; and Fuji apple salad with Gorgonzola cheese puffs and black pepper pecans. I’m having the most amazing flashbacks from my recent meal at Sienna right now, but I’ll tell you more in a minute.

Located in El Dorado Hills’ La Borgata shopping center, Sienna is charmingly upscale but unpretentious, and has plenty to please all palates. The main dining room features a central fireplace and stylish, cozy décor. It feels like you’re at a big dinner party in a friend’s elegant home.

The eatery also boasts a variety of private dining rooms, a stone-topped wraparound bar, and a Chef’s Table in the kitchen. Their wine list is well-rounded and the bar mixes up some innovative specialty cocktails. The whole place was filled with a relaxed but engaging energy the night I dined, and the service was friendly and effective.

But back to the food. The aforementioned appetizers were all noteworthy, and the entrée—honey-nut crusted salmon (aptly named “Sparkling” Salmon, thanks to the accompanying sauce that’s infused with sparkling wine) and grilled filet mignon—even better. I was surprised and delighted by the combination of textures and flavors of the salmon, and the steak was expertly prepared. Both plates came with crisp green vegetables and perfectly executed whipped potatoes: smooth as silk and creamy with a fluffy finish.

The portions were generous and, although full, I can never resist looking at a good dessert menu. Although the choices were almost overwhelming, we kept it real with Sienna’s house-made doughnut holes accompanied by a trio of dipping sauces. For the sweetest ending ever, try the powdered ones with the silky chocolate sauce, and the cinnamon crumb variety with the crème anglaise.

Between the successful made-from-scratch dishes, impressive Happy Hour and inviting environment, dining at Sienna is a meal to remember.
