Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
The Place Within is a non-profit counseling agency that provides affordable counseling by marriage and family therapist interns who are master’s-level therapists working toward licensure. We believe counseling should be accessible to everyone. The Place Within has an office in Roseville, and I realized that there was a need in Folsom as well.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
We collaborate with Powerhouse Ministries Women’s Shelter in Folsom to provide free counseling to their residents. We also work with Sacramento County to provide individual and group counseling services. I personally speak with each of our customers on the phone to make sure I understand their needs and match them with the therapist who is best for them.
Why is your staff the best in the business?
Our staff is dedicated to helping clients meet their therapy goals. As a staff, we are always attending the latest seminars and workshops to assure we have the most current training possible; what’s more, we all have huge hearts and compassion for others.
What life accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being married to my husband and best friend for 25 years, and raising three fantastic adult children.
Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
Brene Brown, author of The Gifts of Imperfection, because she teaches that it’s okay to not be perfect and to strive to be vulnerable, present and authentic.
What’s your biggest job perk?
I get to emotionally connect with people every day. I’m honored to be able to walk with people during their pain, and celebrate their successes when they reach their therapy goals.
