Nestled inside a Folsom strip mall sits a nondescript restaurant and bar – from the outside.

But entering Mooney’s is akin to coming home after a hard day’s work. You feel comfortable, at ease, and ready for some great food.

On a recent Wednesday night, I dragged my girlfriend along and we started our dining adventure with a Happy Hour drink. As we sipped our delicious Lemon Drops, we sampled the homemade Spicy Blue Chips, which have blue cheese crumbles melted on top and are quite tasty. From the start, we had personalized service from none other than Denise, one of the owners. She enjoys checking in with her customers, making suggestions, and getting to know them a bit, providing that personal touch so many other restaurants lack.

After choosing a few songs on the jukebox, I decided to order the Chicken Marsala. My feast began with a large bowl of delicious homemade chicken and rice soup. Next, the main course was delivered on an enormous plate filled with three well-portioned pieces of chicken covered in a zesty lemon caper sauce, accompanied by chunks of perfectly seasoned red potatoes and fresh green beans.

My girlfriend started her meal with a nicely filled dinner salad; after, she enjoyed the Braised Short Ribs in a flavorful and tangy special sauce, with red potatoes and green beans on the side too. She described the ribs as “so tender they practically melted-in-your-mouth.”

The bar at Mooney’s is well stocked and ready for Karaoke Night, which happens every Friday. (We were told to come early as the place fills rather quickly.) Mooney’s is also renowned for having one of the best burgers in Folsom. I think we discovered more than a few good reasons to come back!
