Folsom has lost a favorite son, and Style Media Group has lost one of its family.

In early January, Rollin Newell left us, but for those of us that knew him, he will always be in our hearts and there is no question that his imprint on each of us is lasting and true.

Happy February! The El Dorado Hills Community Services District board of directors has appointed Richard J. Ramirez as interim general manager. Ramirez will evaluate and manage all district operations while a national search for a permanent general manager is underway.

The Falcon’s Eye Theatre is calling for students and/or actors from the community to audition for its production of Carlo Gozzi’s classic fairytale, The King Stag. Auditions will be held on February 13 in the Drama Lab (PAC-1170) at the Three Stages Performing Arts Center from 6:30-10 p.m.

Those auditioning must prepare and memorize a monologue that’s no more than 90 seconds from any stage play. For details, visit falconseyetheatre.com.

California had one of the biggest losses of government workers in the last five years, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. California has lost approximately 47,800 government jobs since 2006. In comparison, government employment, which includes federal, state and local agencies, has actually increased in 30 states and the District of Columbia. The Folsom Cordova Education Foundation (FCEF) has launched the Corporate Partners Program to provide companies a collaborative and supportive framework to help support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and career preparation programs in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 791 people in California died in driving-while-intoxicated crashes last year, down from 950 the year before. While the annual count of DUI deaths increased from 1998 to 2005, the count has steadily decreased since then. The CA

Office of Traffic Safety reports that the record number of DUI checkpoints last year has helped to catch and deter drunk drivers. For more details, visit ots.ca.gov.

The After Five Club, a free support group for those providing care to individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia or other related chronic health conditions, will meet on February 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Senior Day Care Center in Placerville.
