Hello, my name is Aimee and I’m a picky eater.”  It’s true; I grew up fueled by macaroni, pizza and chicken nuggets.

Never one to stray far from my childhood favorites, I’ve made a vow to expand my culinary horizons and actually try new things. A trip to Mr. Kebab and Falafel in Folsom was just the place to get my feet wet and experience the distinctive flavors of Mediterranean cuisine.

As my guest and I made our way over to the counter, I anxiously scanned the menu board for something I recognized. I zeroed in on the Chicken Shish Kebabs, a safe choice for a picky eater such as myself. My guest, the complete opposite of a picky eater, decided to try something new himself and ordered the Lamb and Beef Shawerma with a side of Falafel Fried Chickpea Patties.

After we ordered, we decided to take advantage of the perfect weather and dine on the patio. Our food arrived hot and fresh with all of the fixings! The Chicken Shish Kebabs, broiled and marinated chicken skewers, were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The Lamb and Beef Shawerma was thinly sliced marinated lamb and beef roasted in an upright grill, bursting with lots of Mediterranean spices! Both of our meals included sides of rice, salad, pita and hummus. The falafel was very interesting and I first mistook them for large meatballs until the bright, lime-green chickpeas were exposed on the inside. My guest loved the falafel and dipped them in Mr. Kebab’s yogurt-based tahini sauce.

I have to say, my experience at Mr. Kebab and Falafel was a great way to begin my journey into the adventures of new and exciting cuisine. Next time, I may even go out on a limb and order their Babaghanous!
